Muscle building burns more fat than your cardio routine. When people come up to me and say "I just want to burn fat, and that's why I do cardio" or " I don't want to get bulky and that's why I don't want to build muscle", I get very frustrated. It seems like the vast majority of individuals are following a principle that is far from the truth.
Building muscle should be the ONLY goal when it comes to fat loss.
Muscle increases your metabolic rate and thus burns more fat then cardio alone. Muscular individuals are constantly on a cardio state because of the energy required to fuel muscles. Cardio on the other hand can be detrimental for your fat loss goals. I see gym goers spending hours on the treadmill day and night for years. These people are also the ones that look the same year after year. Excess cardio will strip your body of hard earned muscles as well.
Now that's not to say that cardio doesnt play a role in fat loss. Cardio if done on an empty stomach in the morning or post workout has a great ability to burn fat. I would also monitor your heart rate and keep it at 145 to 155 beats per minute. Learn to focus your goals on gaining muscle tissue and use cardio sparingly.
